The Application Process for the Expert Certificate courses
To apply for the Expert Certificate courses you only have to send us the completed Application Form. After we have received your full payment successfully, your place on the course will be reserved.
The Application Process for the TEFL Certificate course
The TEFL CHINA full-time TEFL course requires you to successfully complete a 2-stage application process, involving a written application form and an interview (an interview is always arranged for non-native speakers). A deposit should be made together with your application (we only give refunds when you did not get accepted on the course). Only when you have been 'accepted' and your deposit has been successfully received will you be able to book your place.
The Application Form
The Written Application form consists of two parts.
1. Personal information
2. Application task. This task enables us to get an idea of how you would approach the job of teaching. You will also be tested on language awareness, i.e. your general grasp of the English language and how it works.
When you apply online the ‘Application Task’ will be sent to you after we have received your application form.

The Interview
The interview will either be face-to-face (if you are in the area), / over the phone, (if you are applying from some distance away from TEFL CHINA).
The interview is quite similar to a job interview, and will involve discussion of your background and reasons for wanting to do the course, question some of your responses to the application form, and most likely ask you to expand on your answers. The interviewer will also give you, the candidate, as much information as possible to help you decide whether the course is right for you.
This all serves the purpose of trying to ensure you have what it takes so that once you have been accepted on the course you stand a very good chance of passing it.
Why test language/grammar awareness before the course starts?
It is one thing to be a native English speaker and another thing to be able to break down your mother tongue and convey it’s meaning to others. On the course there will be plenty of grammar input to help you become more aware and confident when you are teaching grammar.
However, the course is very intense and it is important that you are familiar with the basics. These grammar tests don’t just aim to test your level, but also your willingness find out more, and your potential to teach language.
What happens next?
After we have received your Application Form and you have successfully completed the Task, you will be contacted by TEFL CHINA to set the time and date for your interview.
Acceptance of your application does not automatically mean that your place has been reserved. Only after your deposit has been received your place on the course will be secured.
The remaining course fee should be paid no later than three weeks before the start date of the course. Candidates that make late payments will risk loosing their spot on the course.
Pre-Course task
After your deposit has been successfully received and your place has been reserved, you will receive a Pre-Course Task. This task will not be assessed and it purely for your own preparation. The course is very intense and it can be of great help to already start thinking about the topics that will be discussed.
It is highly recommended that you complete this task before the course starts. It will definitely save you some stress.
