Certification:

 

Trainees that have successfully completed their training shall receive the officially accredited and internationally recognized Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. The certificate is accredited by the ‘Chinese Ministry of Education’ and the ‘Department of State and Foreign Expert Affairs (SAFEA)’.

Course Requirements


Am I eligible to apply?


Ideally you should:

Pass the application task and interview (an interview is always arranged for non-native English speaking applicants).
Be  over 18 years old
Have a standard of English that will enable you to teach at a range of levels.
Be present for 100% of the course
 

Syllabus and assessment
 

The course will have a minimum of 120 contact hours including:

Supervised lesson planning
Teaching practice (6 assessed lessons, 9 teaching hours observed by your trainer, 8 private teaching practice hours)
Feedback on teaching (after each assessed and observed teaching practice)
Peer observation
Observation of experienced teachers 
Consultation time

There are five main units of learning:

 

Learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context
Language systems: analysis and awareness
Language skills: Productive and Receptive skills
Planning and resources for different contexts and levels
Developing teaching skills and professionalism.

 Assessment 

 

You will be assessed throughout the course, with no final examination. There are two components of assessment:

 

 

1.Teaching practice and planning

 

You will teach 6 assessed lessons, working with classes at two levels of ability. Assessment is based on your overall performance at the end of the 6 lessons.


 


2.Written assignments

 

You will complete 3 written assignments on:

 

 

1.          Adult learners and learning contexts

2.          Planning a sequence of lessons for a special target group

3.          On classroom teaching and the identification of action points

              To be awarded the certificate you must pass both components. There

              are two ‘Pass’ grades — ‘Pass’ and ‘Distinction’
