Tai Chi in Yangshuo

Tai Chi in Yangshuo
The most familiar image we have of Tai Chi is of groups of people, both old and young, slowly and elegantly practicing coordinated movements in the park. It began about 350 years ago in the Chen village in Henan province. It has developed into a martial art with its origins and foundation within the Taoist Yin and Yang theory, which also provides the basis for some traditional Chinese medicine and Taichi are often said to be akin in this sense.

In essence though, the latter is a method of self-defense which also enhances co-ordination and fitness. The health benefits, through the stimulation of both mind and body, are recognized throughout the world. It can be practiced by people of all ages.

The Western fascination with this dynamic martial art has continued to grow. As a result, many schools have sprung up in rural areas of China, where stunning natural beauty complements the study of physical and spiritual development. Yangshuo is no exception. There are several schools to choose from and both introductory classes and longer courses are available.
